The proposed re-development of the Festival Plaza Complex includes construction and excavation activities that require dewatering and control of groundwater inflow. AWE conducted a groundwater assessment for the site using existing datasets to review the physical hydrogeological framework of the project site and identify the likely magnitude of groundwater inflows during construction and responses of the system during and following construction.
From this assessment, a concept design was prepared for dewatering activities during construction. This design involved the collection of additional data including short term pump tests and numerical modelling to quantify groundwater fluxes and assess system responses to flow control structures.
AWE’s approach to this project has been proactive and flexible to develop dewatering plans that can be adapted to changing construction schedules.
