AWE undertook an investigation of existing production processes and provided design for an infrastructure upgrade to an iconic milk processing factory. The proposed expansion of the factory and aquisition of new pastoral land allowed for the augmentation of existing wastewater irrigation infrastructure to be integrated with new systems.

A detailed Wastewater Irrigation Management Plan (WIMP) was developed in accordance with EPA requirements which has been successfully implemented.  AWE also assisted the client with representation through the planning phase including providing technical support for the Development Assessment Panel.

Our work on this project included water quality assessment of the process wastewater, and its suitability for land application. A geotechnical assessment was undertaken including multiple sampling locations over a 20ha area, and soil chemistry analysed to determine the nutrient balance. We were able to assign an irrigation application rate and propose the necessary irrigation infrastructure to manage waste flows from the factory.
