Managed Aquifer Recharge (MAR) is a technique that allows the storage of good quality water in an aquifer, when it’s available, that can then be accessed at a later time for irrigation. Severe drought conditions in the Murray-Darling Basin led to receding water levels and increasing salinity in Lake Alexandrina, which was used to supply water to vineyards at Langhorne Creek. A Managed Aquifer Recharge (MAR) project was undertaken to provide a secure water supply for irrigation.
The AWE team designed and constructed the MAR borefield that has been successfully used at FABAL’s Marandoo Estate and Kayinga Vineyards at Langhorne Creek. The AWE team was able to deliver a MAR solution that improved water security for the Client while also meeting critical time constraints.
