About Us

History

AWE was established in 1998 by Andrew Telfer and Nick Watkins who were both highly regarded hydrogeologists with government and consulting experience.  Andrew had specialist expertise in salt interception schemes and groundwater-surface water interactions.  Nick had expertise in Integrated Water Management, salinity management and Managed Aquifer Recharge (MAR).  They were immediately successful in undertaking Salt Interception Scheme design work in the SA Murray Darling Basin and preparing land and water management plans.

Geoff Fisher, an engineer and hydrologist joined in 2003 and became a Director of the company.  Geoff brought to the team extensive experience in hydrological processes, stream rehabilitation, and water resource management. The Directors were supported by a small and loyal team with skills in engineering, GIS, ecology and hydrogeology.

Today

Since the early days AWE has grown to approximately 25 staff with strong technical capabilities in much more than the original company skills. The three Directors have also been joined by a fourth Partner, Rob Burnell, who worked for SA Water for many years and is an experienced Project Manager with specialist engineering skills in public water suply and system hydraulics.

Our  current skills encompass engineering (civil and environmental), hydraulic design, natural resources and environmental management, floodplain and wetland hydrology, groundwater processes, salt transport, ecology, strategic and statutory planning and water quality assessments. These technical capabilities are further supported with expertise in consultation and community engagement and by an experienced spatial team responsible for data management and spatial analysis, as well as map, figure and diagram production.

We provide consulting services to a range of clients in government and industry, particularly within South Australia, and also in Victoria, Queensland and New South Wales.  Please visit What We Do for more information.
